Madison Haiman, MSW

Ms. Madison Smith is a Research Assistant for the Center for Maternal Health Equity. Ms. Smith graduated from The University of Alabama in May with her Master of Social Work degree. During her time as a student, Ms. Smith developed a passion for working with underserved and over-stigmatized communities. Her specific interest is with individuals who are attempting to become pregnant, currently pregnant, or in the postpartum period who are also experiencing mental health or substance use challenges. While a graduate student, she had the opportunity to develop and lead a research project exploring how doulas could be used to address mental health and substance use concerns with pregnant individuals. She has also had the opportunity to be a part of several papers related to maternal mental health and substace use, implementation science, and health equity. Ms. Smith is an advocate for health equity, most specifically as it relates to women’s health.
