A narrative understanding of “Maternal Near Miss” among U. S. women of color

Overall Goal(s) of the Research: To identify risk factors for life-threatening maternal outcomes.
Specific Aim of the Research:
- To investigate women’s experiences related to the burden of severe maternal morbidity using a narrative/storytelling approach
Outcomes of the Specific Aim:
- assessment and review of risk factors that contribute to severe pregnancy complications;
- documentation of the underlying causes of maternal near misses including exploring community context and the complexities of the social determinants of maternal morbidity;
- assessment of clinical causes of maternal morbidity.
