PM³: Preventing Maternal Mortality using Mobile Technology
Project Type: Research
PM³, in collaboration with Morehouse School of Medicine, Georgia Tech, Emory University, and Georgia State University, is an innovative mHealth research study designed by Black women, for Black women.
This project aims to reduce maternal mortality among Black postpartum women in rural Georgia by using mobile health technology to transform care and meet women where they are—on their phones. Built with input from the community, the PM³ app offers real-time health monitoring, culturally-relevant educational resources, social support groups, and personalized care guidance all in the palm of a mother’s hand.
Through a randomized controlled trial (RCT), we’re evaluating how PM³ compares to standard postpartum care. Our goal is to increase engagement with postpartum health recommendations, improve health outcomes, and ultimately save lives.
By leveraging the accessibility and reach of mHealth, PM³ is reimagining postpartum care for rural Black women—putting empowerment, education, and support right at their fingertips.
