Pillar #1: Competitive Translational Research

The platform for the Center’s research is the development and testing of interventions to address chronic disease prevention in reproductive-age women. As such the center is engaged in research that addresses priorities based on identified gaps in current understanding of maternal health in the state and nation. The Center focuses on health services interventions tailored to cardiovascular disease (CVD), diabetes, depression/anxiety, and behavioral medicine – the four conditions that account for the largest proportion of non-communicable causes of maternal morbidity in the United States. The conceptual framework for the research pillar is translation of evidence into practice for population health improvement and health equity.
